Dominicans encouraged to return gifts of kindness

first_img Tweet Share Dr. Wendel Thomas: “return gifts of kindness”.One Dominican who resides in the United States has encouraged other Dominicans; particularly those living in the Diaspora to return gifts of kindness to their country. The Baptist Family Foundation of St. Joseph and the Global Literacy Project have collaborated to donate 11, 265 books with an estimated value of EC$ EC$1.1 million to educational institutions on Monday. At that presentation, President and Co Founder of the Global Literacy Project Dr. Wendel Thomas encouraged others to “give back because you’ve been given a lot”.He explained that he was inspired to give back to his country by his former teacher Osborne Georges. “Osborne Georges who was a teacher in La Plaine School District when he went to Canada on a course and there were some books that were being discarded and he rescued them and sent them to the La Plaine Karen School which is now called the Jones Beaupiere School. Out of those books we had literature, different types of books and he allowed each and every student to take a couple books home and we used some of that idea that we should return to our places.”He said his gift of kindness is in the form of literacy and his organization is appealing to others in the Diaspora to do likewise. “We should return gifts of kindness and for us to return the gift of kindness is to literacy and through that we are doing this 40 foot container of books and we will continue to do so. I encourage those of you that are in the Diaspora to do this one thing; to think about how one can contribute to the development of Dominica.”Dr. Thomas noted that beside literacy there are many other areas in which members of the Diaspora can assist.“It may not be literacy; it could be some of your engineering skills, some of your artistic skills repatriate some of the skills, knowledge and information and materials that you receive from outside these shores.”The website for the Global Literacy Project is www.glpinc.org and members of the Diaspora are encouraged to make a contribution towards the organization. The Baptist Family Foundation of St. Joseph will also stage a fund raiser on the 11th of February in St. Joseph.Dominica Vibes News Share LocalNews Dominicans encouraged to return gifts of kindness by: – February 8, 2012center_img 16 Views   no discussions Share Sharing is caring!last_img read more
